Housebuilding’s best site managers honoured

The UK’s best site managers have been recognised for “their commitment to building new houses of outstanding quality” at the 2011 NHBC Pride in the Job Awards. The four winners, who saw off 13,000 other entrants, were given their prizes by television presenter Denise Van Outen.

The winners were:

• Large builder: Bill Hughes of Miller Homes North West, Whittle Le Park site, Chorley, Lancashire

• Medium builder: Stuart Gillespie of Mactaggart & Mickel Homes, Marr Meadows, Barassie, Troon, South Ayrshire

• Small builder: George Lattimer of family business Lattimer Homes, Sheila Fell Close site in Aspatria, Wigton in Cumbria

• Multi-storey builder: Damian Barden of Telford Homes, Creekside Village West development in Deptford, London

Imtiaz Farookhi, NHBC chief executive, said: “NHBC has worked to raise the standard of new homes in the UK for the last 75 years. Pride in the Job has been instrumental for much of that time in raising the build quality of new homes in the UK for over three decades, with house-builders now routinely striving for perfection in their work. Despite tough times, UK housebuilders are still creating the best new homes, which are more energy efficient and finished to higher standards than ever before. A Pride in the Job award at any level marks the recipient out as a top performer, showing their commitment to producing the best quality homes possible, but winning a national title makes these site managers exemplars in their field.”
